The Bad Poets Society aims to provide a forum for untried, untested, unheralded or otherwise inhibited poets to bring their work into the public domain.
Recognising that poetry can be a uniquely personal and self revelatory form of art, The Bad Poets Society aims to provide a range of tools to encourage disinhibition and the freeing of personal expression.

By fostering a sense of collaborative engagement and experimentation, it aims to encourage a spirit of inclusivity, playfulness and supportiveness within the group.
And by celebrating the range of semantic resonances behind the word bad - where bad can also mean good - by consciously eliding notional hierarchies of taste and value, it aims to affirm all attempts at creative expression on the part of participants.

Although the workshop will place emphasis on the fun and spontaneity of improvisatory exercises, it will also incorporate an element of learning through the introduction of diverse styles and techniques that go beyond formal verse writing to include tone poems, cut ups, radical spoken word and documentary prose styles.
It is hoped that a small number of experienced writers and performers will be on hand to facilitate participants in the creation and presentation of individual poems, while the workshop as a whole will culminate in the writing and performance of a collaborative group piece incorporating written, spoken, musical and other sonic elements in a collective outpouring of free expression.
