Gem Bryant’s debut solo exhibition A Stone in the Shoe considers circularity, the idea that we are perpetually moving through cycles of forgetting and remembering, knowing and unknowing. Reflecting on grief, love, and the ways we assign meaning to material, the work spans installation, sculpture, drawing and photography.

Bryant’s research has become an incidental living archive; using inherited, borrowed and found ephemera from family members and considering these objects as containers, informed by Ursula K. Le Guin’s Carrier Bag Theory of human evolution.
